Mayor Bloomberg at a star-studded award ceremony, awarded Tony-winning playwright Neil Simon. The Bronx-born Simon was the featured honoree at the Mayor’s Awards for Arts and Culture, winning the Handel Medallion, the city’s highest award for artistic achievement. Also at the event was Danny Simmons co- founder of RUSH Philanthropic Arts Foundation , brother of Russell Simmons, Ugly Betty Star Vanessa Williams, Actor Matthew Broderick, and Statler & Waldorf of the Muppets amongst many others. many live performances and trait shows occurred before the ceremony.
